 SPORTSMANSHIP - PROGRAM GUIDELINES

The Dearborn Soccer Club holds an unwavering commitment to good sportsmanship and respect toward all who are involved in the game—players, coaches, officials, spectators and opponents.

To achieve this commitment, we have instituted a Sportsmanship Program in our Club. Every family will be asked to agree to adhere to the Club’s standard of conduct. The following are guidelines for practicing good sportsmanship on our soccer fields and sidelines. All players, coaches, volunteers and spectators are required to adhere to the guidelines. In particular, our adult coaches, managers, volunteers and spectators are expected to be positive role models for our youth players by conducting themselves in accordance with this code of conduct.

Good sportsmanship will result in a safe, wholesome and ethical environment in which our players and families can experience both the exhilaration of competition and the fun of being a part of a team sport.

Good Sportsmanship Behavior

Be a good sport. Treat game officials, coaching staff, trainers and opposing team members with respect. Accept the decision of game officials. Learn the rules of the game. If you are knowledgeable about the game, you will better understand the actions of the coaches and referees, leading to fewer misunderstandings and more enjoyment of your soccer experience.

Be there for your team. Show up to practices and games equipped to play. If it is unavoidable that you must miss a practice or game, call your coach.

Cheer in a positive manner. We encourage cheering from the sidelines. Shout only positive comments to your team and to the opposing team from the sidelines and the coaching box.

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Swearing or rude comments at officials or players.
  2. Rude behavior or remarks on or off the field, including ethnic intimidation.
  3. Aggressive movements toward officials or players.
  4. Gloating the win, or complaining at the loss.
  5. Refusing to shake hands with an opponent
  6. Hurting the opponent during the handshake.
  7. Name calling or laughing at opponent.
  8. Consuming drugs or alcohol before or during a soccer game or practice.
  9. Showing up unprepared for a game or practice.
  10. Not showing up without calling coach.

The Dearborn Soccer Club will not tolerate poor sportsmanship. Any player, coach, volunteer or spectator who fails to adhere to good sportsmanship conduct will be subject to one or more of the following consequences:

  1. Carding by Referee (Coaches can be carded for the offenses of spectators)
  2. Ejection from game or sidelines
  3. Meeting with the Disciplinary Committee of the Dearborn Soccer Club
  4. Suspension from games
  5. Dismissal from the club.

For more information on the conduct that may be subject to discipline and the role of the Rules Committee, please review the Rules Committee Policy. For a printable version for mailing your signed acknowlagement of the Dearborn Soccer Clubs Sportsmanship Guidelines CLICK HERE
