Box 741, Dearborn, MI 48121, or turn your registration in to your coach before the end of your season.
BOYS AND GIRLS, WHO IS THIS?
One of the DSC volunteers observed the following. As one of the in-house team met with the referee, the coach asked, “Boys and girls, who is this?” (Team answered: “The referee.”) “Who’s in charge of this game?” (“The referee is!”) “What do we do when the whistle is blown?” (“Stop!”) The young referee really appreciated this routine. This coach is to be commended. Let’s teach and live good sportsmanship as this coach does.
RAIN OUTS
Games are played in rain. Games are cancelled or may be delayed a short time for lightning. Please always show up to the field for your games or your team may forfeit a game. Do not call the DSC hotline. If a game is cancelled for field conditions, your coach will notify you.

DRIVE IN ONLY ON OXFORD
We are asking everyone to drive in only on Oxford and to take any other street back from the fields. Please also remember to park only on the park-side of Westwood or in the parking lot. Dogs are not allowed at Crowley Park, or any of the schools. Please also help pick up any litter generated by the large number of teams competing at Crowley. We want to be good neighbors, and this effort takes every DSC member’s help.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Club desperately needs volunteers. Several volunteers fill two or three positions for the club. Could you help coordinate team pictures, with the tournament, learn to line the fields, go to a monthly or quarterly meeting to represent the DSC, make telephone calls, do letters, or help in any way no matter how small? Please call 313 565-4433 to volunteer in any way.
THANK YOU KIM AND BRIAN LAMPARSKI!
The DSC thanks Brian and Kim for their many years of service in the vice-president and uniform director roles as well as the many hours spent on the tournaments, coordinating pictures, dealing with trophies, and other Club business. Thank you!
DSC-UK SOCCER CAMPS
The Dearborn Soccer Club will be hosting a community soccer day camp with UK Soccer International (formerly Britannia Soccer) at Crowley Park this summer, and DSC members ages 5 to 18 years are invited to attend to improve soccer skills and have a great time. The camp will run from July 17th to July 21st. The camp will provide fundamental, progressive and advanced skill training to accommodate soccer players of all skill levels. Full day ($150) and half-day ($100) options are available each session. For full-day and afternoon campers, goalie training will be available during the afternoon. Each player receives a soccer ball and camp T-shirt. If you wish to register by mail, a registration form is included with this newsletter. Checks should be made out and mailed to UK Soccer International. Call 313-565-4433 for additional forms or more information. Registration forms are also available at the Recreation Department and on-line at www.dearbornsoccer.org. If you wish to register by credit card, you may do so on-line at www.uksocca.com.
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Please come and cheer on the Dearborn Ogres and the Dearborn Thundercats as they represent the Club in the Dearborn parade on May 29th.
FREE PARENT/COACH CLINIC
The Dearborn Soccer Club will host a UK Soccer International Soccer Parent/Coach Clinic at Crowley Park on July 18th at 6:30 PM. The clinic is free and open to the community. This will be a fun and informative clinic where parents and coaches will increase their understanding of the game of soccer and learn UK Soccer’s innovative teaching methods. Both beginner and advanced levels are available. No registration required. Call 313-565-4433 for more information.
A TRUE STORY
At one game last year, a father was calling out instructions and criticism to his daughter and her teammates. She subbed out and came to the bench in tears. “I can’t believe my dad would do this to me. He’s being such a jerk!” Her teammate tried to comfort her and said: “I wish my dad would come and see me play soccer even if he yelled at me all the time like your dad. My dad hasn’t been to any of my games in years.”
How will your player describe your parental support? What life lessons are you teaching him or her? Criticism on and off the field and negativity don’t really help. Lack of support can be equally as bad. Good sportsmanship, compassion, responsibility and dealing calmly with adversity are lessons best shown and lived, not preached.
